Review: Manuka Secrets Honey Day Creme

Another discount buy from a New Zealand skincare brand by the name of Manuka Secrets. I picked up two different skincare products, here's my review of Manuka Secrets Manuka Honey Day Creme.

I'm not sure if I mentioned that working at a beauty store has it's perks and downfalls, but one of the perks is seeing all of the interesting and new products before everyone else.

Ahem.

What's the difference between Manuka Honey and 'Regular' Honey? Manuka Honey comes from the Manuka Tree or Tea Tree that grows in New Zealand and Southern Austrailia. Manuka honey is much, much more thicker than the honey that you would find in the US. The Manuka honey by itself has an earthy, aroma with a slight bitter tasts, of course not your normal sweet, and lite honey.

Manuka Secrets, is a skincare line based in New Zealand with the main ingredient being, surprise Manuka Honey. Honey has various amounts of benefits ranging from anti-inflammatory, brightening, etc, etc. But with Manuka Secret's products they add additional skin loving properties to their products below are some of the key ingredients that make Manuka Honey a special kind of moisturizer;

Metalloproteinase (MMP’s)

Skin aging is caused by both chronological ageing (unpreventable) and photo aging (sun induced aging). The primary environmental factor that causes photo aging is UV irradiation from the sun. This leads to the breakdown of collagen in the skin. Collagen functions to provide strength and resilience to the skin, so when it breaks down skin loses its firmness and wrinkles are formed.

Research indicates that plant derived phenolic compounds, such as those found within Manuka honey assist in inhibiting MMP’s activity thereby slowing the signs of aging

Antioxidant

Manuka Honey’s high antioxidant levels contribute to its efficacy at wound sites quickening healing and reducing scarring from damaging free radicals. Antioxidants protect skin from UV radiation damage and aid in skin regeneration

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (carbohydrate) in the human body. Research indicates that the glucose present in manuka honey assists the body’s own synthesis of hyaluronic acid (HA).Hyaluronic acid has various functions of which one is to stimulate the production of collagen.Hyaluronic acid is also a significant humectant keeping moisture at the skins surface longer to protect against environmental damage and stress PHAs.

Manuka Honey contains a natural polyhydroxy acid (PHA) that helps maintain the skins protective acidic barrier and works with the slight acidity of your skin to help exfoliate naturally assisting those prone to eczema, dermatitis or dry skin. PHA’s are reported to be less irritating than AHA

COLLAGEN
Vitamin C, various fructose and glucose  assist in the body’s own collagen synthesis. Collagen has a significant role in maintaining the skins elasticity (firmness)
High UMF Manuka honey is used within hospitals globally to assist in the healing of hard to heal wounds and burns

I am all about collagen, and antioxidants. Especially for my skin, granted you'll get some break out but that's your skin expelling all the toxins from your body.

Let's get to the review!

Danielle's Review

Name: Manuka Secrets Honey Day Creme
Type: Limited Beauty/Online
Cost: $7.99 + tax ( Item is discounted) Normal Cost: $39.99
Scent: Honey and Shea Butter??
Texture: Similar to a thick lotion
Results: Weird smelling, but soft face.

Overview: Bluntly put I couldn't get over the smell of the product. I think the mixture of the Shea Butter and Manuka Honey makes a strange smell. Besides that it's just like a regular creme moisturizer, the only better benefits from the added and natural products that are used aka the Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, etc. Also before I noticed the smoothness of my face after using the product, I noticed that my skin had a weird texture, very similar to if my pores were enlarged after using the creme.

No bueno.

I stopped using after a few days to see if my skin was reacting to it and with no breakouts I tried the product again. Same reaction. So with that being said, this is going on my shelf of products I will NOT use again.

Recommended: Pass. A definite pass. There are several masks that you can use in replace of this moisturizer.
